Traditionally, cancer treatment includes surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and some recently approved more precisely-guided drugs such as antibody therapeutics, tyrosine kinase inhibitors, and even more recently immune checkpoint inhibitors. However, these current drug regimens have not resulted in major gains in patient outcomes. In addition to major side effects of chemotherapy, most cancers readily become resistant to chemotherapeutic treatment regimens. Therefore, there is the need for drugs that are more effective with less side effects. Such drugs will improve the management of cancers and reduce the burden of cancer on patients, families and governments.
